2020 LHS Social Studies Optional/Extra Credit Summer Assignment for all students
LHS Social Studies no longer has summer AP assignments. Special assignments will be given at the beginning of the fall semester in place of these summer assignments. The AP faculty of our department felt that this ultimately would achieve better results for students in our AP program.
The optional summer assignment for Social Studies at LHS is open to all students, no matter what Social Studies course they are taking in the fall. Students who complete the assignment can pass it into the Department Chair for Social Studies, Mr. DeLossa, during the first week of September. Successful completion of the assignment will earn a student one homework pass that can be used in any social studies class, and one project extension certificate that can be used on any project in any social studies class to extend a deadline by three school days. A few notes about these:
- The homework pass entitles the student to skip one homework assignment and still get full credit for it. However, the student continues to be responsible for knowing the material from the homework assignment, even if the student does not do the actual assignment. This pass must be presented to the teacher before the assignment is due.
- The project extension pass must be presented no later than one day before the assignment is due. The extension pass does not cover co-workers on projects, unless all of the group has project extension passes and use them at the same time. Projects that are covered by this include: DBQs, research papers, essays, slide shows, and other digital presentation pieces. If there is a presentation associated with the project, the student cannot skip the presentation or extend it. For this reason, it is best not to use the project extension pass with projects that have a fixed presentation date connected to them.
